Mohamed El-Erian is a globally recognized economist, investment strategist and author who brings decades of experience across financial markets, economic policy, investment management and global affairs.
He is Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz, Chair of Gramercy Funds Management and the René M. Kern Practice Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Senior Global Fellow at Wharton's Lauder Institute.
El-Erian previously served as President and CEO of Harvard Management Company, where he oversaw the management of Harvard University's endowment, and as CEO and Co-Chief Investment Officer of PIMCO. Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund, ultimately becoming Deputy Director.
He served as President of Queens' College, Cambridge, from 2020 to 2025 and is now a Life Fellow of the college. He also chairs the Board of Under Armour and serves on the board and executive committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
El-Erian is widely associated with the concept of the "New Normal," which he and his colleagues used to describe the structural changes affecting advanced economies following the global financial crisis. His analysis has continued to focus on monetary policy, financial markets, economic growth, geopolitical developments, global investment and the interaction between markets and policymakers.
He is the author of bestselling books including When Markets Collide, The Only Game in Town and Permacrisis, the latter co-authored with Gordon Brown and Michael Spence. He is also a contributing editor at the Financial Times and a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion.
